In a recent report, Football.London stated that Tottenham Hotspur are showing interest in Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher. It is understood that Spurs will have to rival Newcastle United in the race to secure the services of the English playmaker this summer.
Gallagher’s Difficult Campaign At Stamford Bridge
Gallagher endured a tough campaign at the West London club after struggling to find consistency for them in the Premier League. The 23-year-old netted three goals and picked up one assist in 45 matches for the Blues last season in multiple competitions.
The Epsom-born talent proved his worth at times in the middle of the park as he averaged 1.3 tackles, 0.8 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in Premier League football. He was even accurate when distributing the ball from midfield based on his pass completion rate of 84.5% in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Chelsea is set to run out in the summer of 2025. Therefore, Spurs would have to make a sizable offer if they want to get Gallagher on board this year.
Is Gallagher The Right Fit For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglou?
Gallagher is full of energy and running at the centre of the park. He loves a tackle and can set up some decent chances for his teammates in the final third. Gallagher is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also operate in the number ten position or as a defensive midfielder if told to do so by his manager.
The English talent can also make a few decent runs with the ball in the opponent’s half when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. He is a tidy passer of the ball as well and would be a good fit for Angelos Postecoglou’s brand of football at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Gallagher is good enough to challenge for a regular starting spot at the North London club next season. He might even help Spurs challenge for a top-four spot in the Premier League.
At 23, Gallagher has got a promising future ahead of him as long as he continues to work hard in the training field. Thus, Postecoglou should focus on devising a move to snap him up before the end of this summer transfer window.
