In a recent report, Defensa Central claimed that Real Madrid have set their sights on Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino, who will become a free agent soon. It is understood that Los Blancos are planning to offer the Brazilian striker a €5m per year contract to lure him to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium this summer.

Firmino’s Decent Numbers At Merseyside This Season

Firmino enjoyed a decent season at Anfield recently as he managed to put in a run of fruitful displays for the Reds on the attacking third of the pitch. The Brazil international has scored 13 goals and grabbed five assists in 35 matches for Liverpool this season across multiple competitions.

The 31-year-old has led the line well for the Merseyside club and deserves some credit for averaging 1.6 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He has also been relatively tidy when distributing the ball in the final third, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 79.9% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).

His current deal at Anfield will run out at the end of this month which could open the door for Real Madrid to sign him on a free transfer this summer.

What Will Firmino Bring To Real Madrid?

Firmino is a technically gifted footballer who has got the vision to create some promising chances for his teammates in the opponent’s half. He remains a good dribbler with the ball and has a knack for scoring a few important goals for his team. The Brazilian striker excels at linking up play with others around him but is a player on the decline.

Still, there is no doubt that Firmino has what it takes to be a real asset for a top club like Real Madrid in the short term. At 31, he has still got a few good years left in him to perform at a high level.

Therefore, Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti would be wise to offer him a lucrative, short-term contract as he will bring some healthy competition for Karim Benzema at the Madrid club next season. Furthermore, Firmino has got the winning mindset to be a success story in the Spanish capital if Real Madrid can get him on board soon.
