In a recent report, The Guardian claimed that Chelsea want to recruit Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo. It has been revealed that the Blues are eager to acquire the services of the Ecuadorian sensation this summer.
Caicedo’s Impressive Run Of Form In The Premier League
Caicedo has enjoyed a solid campaign at Brighton after he produced a string of dominant performances at the centre of their midfield. The Ecuador international has registered one goal and one assist in 43 matches for the Seagulls this season across all fronts.
The 21-year-old has anchored the midfield with conviction based on his average of 2.7 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, 0.7 clearances, 0.8 shots, 1.2 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in Premier League football. He has even taken care of the ball when distributing possession from midfield as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 88.8% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Amex is set to run out in the summer of 2027. Hence, the Blues will have to make a sizable offer if they want to recruit Caicedo in the upcoming transfer window.
What Will Caicedo Add To Chelsea Head Coach Mauricio Pochettino’s Side?
Caicedo is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure possession back for his team at the centre of the park. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball and has also got the vision to create some decent plays for others around him. Caicedo mainly functions as a defensive midfielder but can also operate as a box-to-box midfielder if asked to do so.
The Ecuador international can shoot the ball with power from long range and is proficient at making a few energetic runs from midfield. He already knows the Premier League well by now and has got the potential to become one of the best players in his position someday.
We can expect Caicedo to add more quality to Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino’s attack. He might even help the Blues challenge for some major trophies in the coming seasons. Thus, it makes sense for the West London giants to engineer a move to bring him to Stamford Bridge when the transfer window reopens later this month.
