In a recent report, Betevé’s La Porteria revealed that Barcelona are set to agree on a three-year deal with Manchester City star Ilkay Gundogan. It has been mentioned that the Catalan club are close to signing the German talent on a free transfer at the end of this season.
Gundogan’s Brilliant Season At Manchester
Gundogan is having another excellent campaign at the Etihad Stadium after he put in a series of impressive performances for Man City in the final third. The 32-year-old has scored 11 goals and earned seven assists in 50 matches for the Mancunian club this season on all fronts.
The German sensation has been a decent performer for the Mancunian side at the centre of the park based on his average of 1.0 tackles, 1.7 shots, 1.2 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He has also been careful when distributing possession from midfield as he has completed 88.2% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Gundogan is under contract at Man City until the end of this month which could open the door for Barca to land him.
Is Gundogan A Dream Option For Barcelona Boss Xavi?
Gundogan is a tough-tackling midfielder who can control the flow of the game well in the middle of the park. He has a knack for scoring and creating a lot of important goals for his team. Gundogan usually functions as a box-to-box midfielder but can also operate as a defensive midfielder or play in the number ten position if asked to do so.
The German talent is usually quite clever with his movements in and around the opponent’s penalty box. Therefore, he will be a dream option for Barcelona boss Xavi to consider during this summer transfer period.
Gundogan will add a ton of firepower to Barca‘s attack at the Nou Camp as long as he can make a smooth transition to life in Spanish football. He has got the winning mindset to help the Catalan club challenge for even more major honours in the not-too-distant future.
At 32, Gundogan still has a few good years left in his locker which makes him a decent, short-term signing for Barcelona to pursue this summer.
