In a recent report, Sport mentioned that Barcelona are eyeing a move for Feyenoord full-back Lutsharel Geertruida this summer. It has been claimed that the Catalan club are preparing to make a move to bring the Dutch full-back to the Nou Camp.
Geertruida’s Impressive Run Of Form In Dutch Football
Geertruida has caught the eye with his performances on the right side of Feyenoord’s defence over the past ten months. The Dutch talent has banged in three goals and earned three assists in 41 matches for his current employers last season in all competitions.
The 22-year-old has impressed at times with his contributions on the right flank based on his average of 1.6 tackles, 1.0 interceptions, 1.5 clearances, 0.9 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Dutch Eredivisie. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution after completing 90.6% of his attempted passes in the Dutch top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the De Kuip is set to run out in the summer of 2025. Thus, it won’t be easy for the Catalan club to sign him on a cut-price deal in this off-season.
What Will Geertruida Bring To Barcelona?
Geertruida is a solid tackler of the ball and can make a few timely interceptions for his team on the defensive end of the field. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the offensive and can orchestrate some promising chances for his teammates in the final third. The Dutch talent is primarily a right-back but can also fill in as a centre-back or as a defensive midfielder if asked to do so by his manager.
We can expect Geertruida to bring more quality to Barcelona‘s backline. He might even help the Catalan club challenge for some major honours in the coming seasons. At 22, the Dutch right-back has got a lot of room to grow as a footballer and has the potential to become a future star in European football.
Geertruida is good enough to secure a regular starting spot at the Nou Camp as long as he can make a smooth transition to life in Spain. Hence, Xavi would be wise to move in for him during this summer transfer window.
