Napoli are one of the best teams in Italian football at the moment following their rise over the past couple of years under the stewardship of Luciano Spaletti. The Naples-based outfit have won 13 major trophies in their history which include two league titles, one UEFA Cup and six Italian Cups among other top honours.

Spaletti managed to lead Napoli to challenge for the Serie A title once again in the 2022-23 season.

Now that Napoli are back on top and competing for major trophies once again, let’s take a look at their last title win.

The Italian club won their first league title back in the 1986-87 campaign. They went on to win the Italian Cup that same season. Napoli will try to get another title in their trophy cabinet when Luciano Spaletti takes charge of them in the 2023-24 Serie A season.

When Was The Last Time Napoli Won The Serie A Title?

Napoli’s last league success came in the 1989-90 campaign when they overcame AC Milan’s challenge to secure their second league title. The Italian side managed to clinch the league title by just two points that season after they finished with 51 points in 34 league matches.

Napoli banged in 57 goals and conceded just 31 times which gave them a positive goal difference of 26 during that campaign. The late great Diego Maradona finished as the Naples club’s top-scorer in the league that season as he managed to find the back of the net on 16 occasions for them that considerably aided their title run (via wikipedia).

It was only Napoli’s second title triumph in history. Luciano Spaletti will hope to end the club’s long wait for another league title soon so that the Naples giants can once again establish themselves as one of the powerhouses of European football.
