In a recent report, Foot Mercato revealed that West Ham United have made contact to sign Borussia Monchengladbach winger Alassane Plea. It has been claimed that the Hammers are eyeing a move to bring the French attacker to the London Stadium this summer.

Plea’s Impressive Form In German Football This Season

Plea has enjoyed a decent campaign at the German club after putting in a run of impressive performances on the left side of their attack. The French talent has participated in 31 matches for Borussia Monchengladbach this season, netting two goals and grabbing 13 assists in the process across multiple competitions.

The 30-year-old has been a decent performer in the final third based on his average of 1.0 shots, 1.1 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga. However, he has to find a way to improve his ball distribution as he has made just 72.8% of his attempted passes in the German first division (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at Monchengladbach is set to expire in the summer of 2025. Thus, it won’t be easy for West Ham to get him on board ahead of the new campaign.

Should West Ham United Boss David Moyes Move In For Plea?

Plea can engineer space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to set up some inviting chances for his teammates in the final third and is a decent dribbler with the ball as well.

The French talent is primarily a left-winger but can also fill in as a centre-forward or in the number ten position if his manager tells him to do so.

We can expect Plea to bring more firepower to West Ham‘s frontline. He will no doubt offer some serious competition for Said Benrahma, Jarrod Bowen and Pablo Fornals at the London Stadium next season.

At 30, Plea might still have a few good years left in him and would be a good, short-term signing for the Hammers in this off-season. However, there are some question marks over whether he would be able to make a smooth transition to life in the English capital. Still, Moyes should focus on moving for Plea this summer as he might help the East London club challenge for European football in the coming seasons.
