In a recent report, InterLive offered an update on the future of Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof. It is understood that the Swedish talent is ‘quite unhappy’ with his situation at the Mancunian club with Inter Milan keen on recruiting him this summer.
Lindelof’s Up And Down Season In Manchester
Lindelof is having a campaign of mixed emotions as he has done well to put in some solid displays for Man United at the back but has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot at Old Trafford. The 28-year-old has made 32 appearances for the Red Devils this season across all fronts.
The Sweden international has given a good account of himself on the defensive end of the field by averaging 0.8 tackles, 0.9 interceptions and 3.2 clearances per game in the Premier League. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution after making 92.8% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Mancunian club is set to run out in the summer of 2024. Thus, it makes sense for Erik ten Hag to cash in on Lindelof in this off-season or else lose him as a free agent next year.
What Should Manchester United Boss Erik Ten Hag Do With Regards To Lindelof?
Lindelof is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He can scan the danger well and usually clears his lines when the opposition are on the offensive.
The Swedish defensive ace is also proficient at playing his way out from the back. However, Lindelof has often found himself behind Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez in ten Hag’s pecking order at Old Trafford this season.
Furthermore, Lindelof has just got a year left to run in his contract at the Theatre of Dreams. Thus, the Red Devils would be wise to cash in on him during this summer transfer period and use the money generated from his potential sale to bring in a capable replacement.
At 28, Lindelof is enjoying his prime years at the moment, so it is only fair to the player if Man United allow him to leave when the transfer window commences later this year.
