In a recent interview with Football Insider, former Premier League forward Gabby Agbonlahor urged Tottenham Hotspur to sign Everton keeper Jordan Pickford. Agbonlahor said,

“I’ve said this all season.

“Even before he signed the contract, it was clear that Pickford replacing Lloris is just an easy transfer for Spurs.

“He’s English, he’s a top goalkeeper, he’s experienced, he can play from the back.

“Even though he’s signed a new contract – it means nothing.

“I would still go for him. Make a statement.

“Goalkeepers are a big part of where you need to go right as a football club, and Lloris is not good enough.”

Pickford’s Difficult Season At Merseyside

Pickford is having a tough campaign at Goodison Park as he has struggled to help the Toffees get out of relegation trouble going into the final match of this campaign. The 29-year-old has conceded 60 goals and kept seven clean sheets in 37 matches for the Merseyside club this season in various competitions.

The English goalie deserves a lot of credit for averaging 0.9 clearances and 7.8 long balls per 90 minutes in Premier League football. However, he has been sloppy with his ball distribution after completing just 51.5% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).

Can Everton Afford To Lose Pickford This Summer?

Pickford can be a safe pair of hands in between the sticks when he is playing with confidence on the field. He has got decent reflexes that allow him to make a few important saves at the back. The English talent is a decent handler of the ball as well but needs to figure out a way to improve his passing accuracy if he wants to be more successful at the highest level.

There is no denying that Pickford has endured a difficult campaign at Everton this season. However, he has what it takes to be a real asset for a club like Tottenham Hotspur as they are eager to sign a new keeper to replace Hugo Lloris who has entered the twilight years of his playing career.

Maybe, Everton would be better off cashing in on him and bringing in a suitable replacement during the summer transfer period. Pickford’s growth has halted at the Merseyside club, so they can afford to lose him and replace him with a fresh face in this off-season.
