In a recent report, The Shields Gazette stated that Newcastle United are facing stiff competition for Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram. It has been revealed that the Magpies will have to rival Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign the French midfield ace.

Thuram’s Impressive Form In French Football This Season

Thuram is having a decent campaign at Nice as he has managed to put in a handful of eye-catching displays at the heart of their midfield. The 22-year-old has found the back of the net on two occasions and grabbed eight assists in 48 appearances for the French club this season across various competitions.

The France international has anchored the midfield with conviction based on his average of 1.5 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, 0.9 clearances, 1.1 shots, 1.0 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution after making 86.9% of his attempted passes in the French first division (stats via whoscored).

His current deal with Nice will run out in the summer of 2025. Therefore, the Magpies will have to make a sizable offer if they want to win the race for his services.

Is Thuram The Right Fit For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?

Thuram is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his side at the centre of the park. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when the opposition are on the offensive. The French talent can also make a positive impact in the final third by scoring and creating his fair share of goals. He is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also play as a left-side wide player if told to do so.

Hence, someone with Thuram’s skillset will be a welcome addition to Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe‘s first team. He is good enough to fight for a regular starting spot at St. James’ Park next season.

Furthermore, Thuram could go on to form a dominant midfield partnership with Bruno Guimaraes and Joe Willock at the Tyneside club over the next few years. Thus, the Nice star would be a great fit for Howe’s style of play and could even help the Magpies challenge for some major trophies in the not-too-distant future.
