In a recent podcast with Caught Offside, respected journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that Manchester United have identified Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister as a target. Romano revealed that the Red Devils have held discussions around recruiting the player and said,
“United (Man United) also have to make a decision on Marcel Sabitzer, because they could … do something in midfield.
“They have discussed targets like Manu Kone and Alexis Mac Allister, but they can’t attack the situation just yet because it depends how much of their budget they’ll have left for a midfielder after signing a striker.”
Mac Allister’s Excellent Form In The Premier League This Season
Mac Allister is having a great campaign at the American Express Community Stadium as he has put in a series of impressive displays at the heart of Brighton’s midfield. The Argentina international deserves a lot of credit for scoring ten goals and grabbing two assists in 33 matches for the Seagulls this season across all fronts.
The 24-year-old has been a positive influence at both ends of the field as he is averaging 2.1 tackles, 0.8 key passes 2.6 shots, 1.2 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been excellent when distributing possession from midfield after making 87.5% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Will Mac Allister Be A Good Choice For Manchester United Head Coach Erik Ten Hag?
Mac Allister can do a little bit of everything at the centre of the park. He is a good tackler of the ball and can make a few timely interceptions for his team as well. The Argentine talent can strike the ball with venom and precision from long range. He has also got the vision to create some good chances for others around him on the attacking end of the pitch.
Mac Allister is a decent dribbler with the ball as well. He mainly operates as a box-to-box midfielder but can also play in the number ten position or as a defensive midfielder if needed.
We can expect Mac Allister to add plenty of quality to Man United boss Erik ten Hag’s squad if they can successfully devise a way to lure him to Old Trafford later this year. He has what it takes to help Man United challenge for some major silverware in the coming seasons. Hence, Mac Allister will be a great choice for the Red Devils to consider in the summer.
