In a recent report, The Daily Express mentioned that Manchester United could rekindle their interest in Barcelona ace Frenkie de Jong. It has been claimed that the Red Devils are hoping to move in for the Dutch playmaker once again after failing to land him last summer.
De Jong’s Impressive Numbers At The Nou Camp
De Jong is having a good campaign at the Catalan club after putting in a run of productive displays for them at the centre of the park. The 25-year-old has featured in 38 matches for Barca this season, finding the back of the net on two occasions and picking up two assists in all competitions.
The Dutch talent has been a decent performer in both halves and has done well to average 1.3 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, 0.6 clearances, 0.6 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in La Liga. He has also been excellent with his ball distribution as he has made 91% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Spanish football (stats via whoscored).
De Jong’s current deal at Barcelona will expire in the summer of 2026. Therefore, Man United will have to make a sizable offer if they are serious about recruiting him in this off-season.
Is De Jong A Decent Choice For Manchester United Boss Erik Ten Hag?
De Jong is a good tackler of the ball and can make some important interceptions for his side at the centre of the park. He has got the vision to create some inviting chances for others around him in the opponent’s half and can make a few energetic runs with the ball as well.
However, the Dutch sensation has to find a way to improve his productivity in the final third. Still, there is no denying his quality. Hence, Man United should try to do everything they can to lure him to Old Trafford this summer.
We can expect de Jong to add more energy and dynamism to Erik ten Hag‘s midfield department. He could even help Man United challenge for some major honours over the next few years. All in all, de Jong will be a great choice for the Red Devils to pursue during this summer transfer period.
