Chelsea is one of the most famous clubs in England as they have managed to win a lot of major honors in both domestic and European football over the years. The Blues went through a period of transition in the 2022-23 campaign following Graham Potter’s sacking as the club’s boss.
The West London club has won the UEFA Champions League twice (2012, 2021), the league title six times (1955, 2005, 2006, 2010, 2015, 2017), the FA Cup eight times (1970, 1997, 2000, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2018), the League Cup five times (1965, 1998, 2005, 2007, 2015) and the UEFA Europa League twice (2013, 2019) among many other major honours (via chelseafc.com).
Chelsea have lifted a total of 36 major trophies in their history. Despite the club tasting so much success, they also had to go through a lot of disappointments over the years.
Has Chelsea Ever Been Relegated?
Chelsea was one of the founding members of the Premier League in 1992. However, they are among a few clubs to have never been relegated since the league’s conception.
Chelsea along with Arsenal, Everton, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur have never been demoted from the Premier League.
However, the Blues have suffered relegation a total of six times from English football’s first division before the Premier League era.
The West London giants were demoted from top-flight football in the following years: 1909–10, 1923–24, 1961–62, 1974–75, 1978–79, and most recently, 1987–1988.
Only time will tell what lies ahead for Chelsea in the Todd Boehly era as they look to make some key changes soon in the hopes of bringing more success back to Stamford Bridge in the coming seasons.
