In a recent report, AS claimed that Chelsea are facing tough competition for Celta de Vigo playmaker Gabri Veiga. It has been mentioned that the Blues will have to rival Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Manchester City in the race to land the Spanish attacker during this summer transfer period.

Veiga’s Impressive Numbers In La Liga This Season

Veiga has enjoyed a decent campaign at the Spanish club as he has put in a string of eye-catching performances for them in the final third. The 21-year-old has scored nine goals and secured four assists in 39 matches for his current employers this season across all competitions.

The Spain Under-21 international has proven himself to be a valuable contributor in the opponent’s half based on his average of 1.7 tackles, 0.8 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in the top tier of Spanish football (stats via whoscored).

Veiga’s current deal at Celta Vigo is set to run out in the summer of 2026. Hence, the Blues will find it difficult to get him on board in this off-season.

Chelsea Face Competition For Veiga: Is He Worth The Fight?

Veiga can engineer a yard of space for himself to get a few strikes in on-target. He has got the vision to create some decent chances for his teammates on the attacking end of the field.

The Spanish sensation is a technically gifted footballer who is primarily an attacking midfielder or a box-to-box midfielder if his manager asks him to do so.

We can expect Veiga to add more goals and creativity to Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino’s attack. He is good enough to fight for a regular starting spot at the West London club next season and could help the Blues get back to challenging for a top-four spot in the Premier League soon.

Hence, Veiga will be well worth the fight as he has got the potential to become a future star at Stamford Bridge as long as Pochettino is willing to play him often in the coming seasons. However, it remains to be seen whether he can make a smooth transition to life in English football.
