In a recent report, Fichajes stated that Barcelona are in pole position to land Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino. It has been claimed that the Catalan club have moved ahead of Real Madrid in the race to secure the services of the Brazilian attacker who will become a free agent later this summer.

Firmino’s Impressive Numbers At Merseyside This Season

Firmino has played a sporadic role in Jurgen Klopp’s squad this season as he has missed a lot of games due to injury. The 31-year-old has participated in 34 matches for the Reds during this campaign, netting 12 goals and grabbing five assists in the process across various competitions.

The Brazilian sensation has seen a lot of his appearances come off the bench but has performed well to average 1.6 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football.

He was even accurate with his ball distribution after making 80.4% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).

Firmino’s current contract at Liverpool runs out later this summer which could open the door for Barcelona to snap him up on a free transfer.

What Will Firmino Add To Barcelona Head Coach Xavi’s Side?

Firmino is a technically gifted footballer who excels at creating space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has got the vision to create some clear-cut chances for his teammates on the attacking end of the pitch. The Brazilian sensation is a good dribbler with the ball as well.

Firmino will undoubtedly add more goals and creativity to Barcelona boss Xavi‘s attack. He has what it takes to help the Catalan club challenge for even more trophies in the coming seasons.

At 31, Firmino might still have a few good years left in him to play at his best, especially away from the physicality of the Premier League. Hence, Barca should focus on getting him on board as such a deal will make sense for them financially in the short term.
