In a recent report, The Telegraph stated that Barcelona are eyeing a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves. It has been claimed that the Catalan club would have to pay £45m if they want to convince Wolves to part ways with their prized asset this summer.
Neves’ Decent Run Of Form In English Football
Neves is enjoying a decent campaign at the West Midlands club as he has been responsible for putting in a handful of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. The 26-year-old has banged in six goals and grabbed one assist in 39 matches for Wolves this season across all competitions.
The Portuguese talent has been a reliable performer at the heart of Julen Lopetegui’s midfield based on his average of 2.3 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, 2.3 clearances, 2.0 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from midfield after completing 84% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
Neves is under contract at the Molineux Stadium until the summer of 2024. Therefore, Barca could potentially land him on a cut-price fee in this off-season.
Should Barcelona Boss Xavi Snap Neves Up?
Neves is a good tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to secure the ball back for his team at the centre of the park. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot.
The 39-time Portugal international is a good passer of the ball and can strike the ball with a lot of power from long range. However, Neves needs to make some more runs in the opponent’s half if he wants to improve his offensive productivity in the coming seasons.
At 26, the Wolves star is about to enter his prime which makes him a great option for Barcelona boss Xavi to consider during this summer transfer period. We can expect Neves to enhance the quality of Barca‘s midfield department and might even help the Catalan club challenge for some major honours in the future.
With all things considered, it makes sense for Xavi to Neves up when the transfer window commences later this summer.
