Everton welcomed Newcastle United at Goodison Park earlier tonight as they hoped to earn a good result at home. The Toffees made a poor start to the game as they conceded the opening goal in the 28th minute when Callum Wilson found the back of the net. Sean Dyche’s men failed to mount a comeback and went into the half-time break 1-0 down on the scoreline.

Joelinton doubled Newcastle’s lead in the 72nd minute before Wilson scored again with an excellent finish just three minutes later. Dwight McNeil got a goal back for Everton soon after but Newcastle scored again thanks to Jacob Murphy’s effort. The contest ended with the Toffees crashing to a dismal 4-1 defeat in front of their home fans.

Let’s take a look at how each Everton player fared during the match against the Magpies.

GK: Jordan Pickford – 6/10

The English keeper made a few excellent saves at the back but still ended up shipping in four goals tonight.

RB: Ben Godfrey – 6/10

Godfrey made a few important clearances at the back but his efforts were not enough tonight.

CB: Michael Keane – 6.5/10

He did his fair share of defending and was a dominant presence in the air.

CB: James Tarkowski – 7.5/10

Tarkowski tried his best to stop the Newcastle onslaught and was a good presence on the ball as well.

LB: Vitaliy Mykolenko – 6/10

Mykolenko struggled to catch the eye and looked vulnerable at the back.

CM: Amadou Onana – 7/10

He anchored the midfield with conviction and was lively in the Newcastle half.

CM: Idrissa Gueye – 6/10

Gueye worked hard at both ends of the field but it was not enough in the end.

He produced a tireless shift at the centre of the park but lacked quality in the final third.

Iwobi caused a few problems for the Tottenham defenders but there was no goal for him tonight.

ST: Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 6.5/10

The English forward was a real menace in the final third but failed to take any of his chances.

LW: Dwight McNeil – 7/10

McNeil was not shy of having a strike at goal and scored a late goal which proved to be a consolation.

Substitutes:

ST: Neal Maupay – 6/10

He was tidy with his passing.

ST: Ellis Simms – N/A

Simms didn’t have enough time to make an impact.
