If a recent report from Greek outlet Sportime is believed to be true, Rangers are keeping close tabs on Aris attacking sensation Luis Palma. The young Honduran is enjoying a blistering spell in the Super League Greece, and therefore, has emerged as a summer target for an array of outfits.
According to Sportday, the Light Blues are likely to face competition from Belgian side Gent. Clubs in Russia have shown interest, also, several MLS teams are chasing his signing having roped in an array of Honduras internationals including LAFC’s Denil Maldonado and DC United’s Andy Najar. However, the prospect of plying his trade at America is ‘even hotter’ given the presence of his fellow countrymen.
The Rangers scouts were supposed to be in attendance on Sunday evening to watch the Aris star play against Olympiacos. Deployed as a midfield attacker, Palma was taken off for Rafael Camacho around the 75th-minute mark. The latter, incidentally, scored the equalizer as it finished all square at the Karaiskakis Stadium.
The 23-year-old Los Catrachos international progressed through the academy ranks of Vida back in his homeland. He eventually broke into their senior set-up and went on to score 23 goals in 70 appearances across competitions. The youngster also had a brief loan stint with Real Monarchs in the second tier of American football, but his decision of joining the Greek side in January 2022 earned him the limelight in Europe.
Why Rangers Should Go For Palma
Predominantly a left winger, Palma has exhibited his expertise across the frontline as well as in various midfield roles. Out of 10 goals and 6 assists in 29 games so far this campaign, he has scored six and laid on five more while spearheading the attack. His sharpness high up the pitch could see him emulating the successful regime of departing Alfredo Morelos for years to come.
Ryan Kent, too, could part ways in the summer upon the expiration of his Ibrox contract. The Englishman’s egress would leave a massive void down the left-hand flank, but the versatile Yellow-Blacks ace holds all the traits to slot in as the successor of the former Liverpool prodigy.
Michael Beale is desperate to tie Malik Tillman down on permanent terms due to his exquisite loan spell from Bayern Munich. Fashion Sakala has been a revelation down the right and the arrival of Todd Cantwell has bolstered the Gers further in and around the attacking third. Antonio Colak has impressed as a ‘number 9’ and it remains to be seen whether the gaffer deploys Palma from the left if a deal takes place in the due course of time.
