Dumfries’ Impressive Season In Italian Football
Dumfries is enjoying a solid campaign at the Milan club and deserves credit for putting in a handful of impressive performances for them on the right flank. The 26-year-old has participated in 38 matches for the Italian outfit this season, scoring two goals and grabbing six assists in various competitions.
The 43-time Netherlands international has given a good account of himself by averaging 1.0 tackles, 1.1 shots and 1.0 key passes per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been tidy when distributing possession in the opponent’s half based on his pass success rate of 78.3% in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Italian club is set to run out in the summer of 2025. Therefore, the Villans will have to make a good offer if they want to recruit the Dutch sensation later this year.
Is Dumfries The Right Fit For Aston Villa?
Dumfries is a tough-tackling wide player who usually works hard at both ends of the pitch. He can strike the ball with power and precision from long range and has got the vision to orchestrate a few promising chances for his teammates in the final third.
The Netherlands international can also make a few driving runs with the ball on the right wing. However, there are some question marks over whether he can adapt to the physical side and high intensity of English football.
We can expect Dumfries to add more quality to Aston Villa boss Unai Emery’s first team and help the Villans challenge for European football in the coming seasons. Therefore, Emery should consider going all out to acquire the services of the Dutch wide player later this summer.
At 26, Dumfries has his best years ahead of him which makes him an ideal fit for the West Midlands club. However, it remains to be seen if Aston Villa can fund a move to bring him to Villa Park during this summer transfer period.
