In a recent report, Il Messaggero (via Lazio Press) mentioned that Arsenal are still keen on recruiting Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinković-Savić. It has been claimed that the Gunners have already ‘tested the waters’ to recruit the Serbian talent who is open to sealing a move to the North London club.
Milinković-Savić’s Impressive Form At The Stadio Olimpico
Milinković-Savić is experiencing a fruitful season at Lazio after putting in a series of decent performances for them at the centre of the park. The 28-year-old has found the back of the net eight times and earned eight assists in 38 appearances for the Italian club this season across all fronts.
The Serbia international has been a positive influence at both ends of the field based on his average of 1.6 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 1.2 clearances, 1.6 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been excellent when distributing possession from midfield after making 76.6% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at the Italian club is set to run out at the end of next season. Thus, Arsenal would be wise to test Lazio’s resolve by making a cut-price offer for Milinkovic-Savic this summer.
Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Move In For Milinković-Savić?
Milinkovic-Savic is a good tackler of the ball and doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when required. He can also make some timely interceptions for his side in the middle of the park and packs a lot of power with his shot attempts.
The Serbian midfield ace can also set up a few promising chances for his teammates in the opposition half and is a good dribbler with the ball as well. He mainly operates as a box-to-box midfielder but can also fill in as an attacking midfielder when asked to do so.
Milinkovic-Savic will inject even more quality into Arsenal‘s midfield department at the Emirates Stadium and is good enough to offer some serious competition for Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka and Martin Odegaard at the North London club next season.
Therefore, Mikel Arteta should consider moving in for the Serbian sensation during this summer transfer window when he will have just one year remaining in his Lazio contract.
