In a recent report, Sport1 mentioned that Arsenal are eyeing a move for Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Djibril Sow. It has been claimed that the Gunners are hoping to acquire the services of the Swiss talent this summer.
Sow’s Decent Form In German Football This Season
Sow is having a solid campaign in Germany as he has been responsible for putting in a run of impressive displays at the heart of Frankfurt’s midfield. The 26-year-old has made 38 appearances for the German club this season, netting three goals in the process across all competitions.
The Zurich-born talent has protected his backline well by averaging 1.4 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 0.7 clearances per game in Bundesliga. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from midfield after making 85.7% of his attempted passes in the top tier of German football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Deutsche Bank Park is set to run out in the summer of 2024. Hence, the Gunners could potentially land him on the cheap at the end of this campaign.
What Will Sow Add To Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta’s Side?
Sow can get stuck in with some solid tackles to make life difficult for the opposition at the centre of the park. He is usually quick to spot the danger and can make a few timely interceptions for his team. The Swiss sensation doesn’t hesitate to clear the danger when required but needs to improve his productivity in the final third.
Sow is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also fill in as a defensive midfielder or play in the number ten position if his manager asks him to do so.
We can expect the Frankfurt star to add more bite and steel to Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta‘s midfield department and could increase competition for places within his match-day squad.
At 26, Sow is about to enter his prime which makes him a good choice for the North London club to pursue during this summer transfer period. However, there are some concerns over whether he can adapt to the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football. Still, the Gunners would be wise to get him on board as he would help them compete for multiple trophies in the coming seasons.
