Newcastle United entertained Wolverhampton Wanderers at St. James’ Park earlier this evening as they hoped to secure a win in front of their home fans in the Premier League. The Magpies made a good start to the game and scored the opening goal in the 26th-minute courtesy of Alexander Isak’s effort. The Tyneside outfit managed to get to the half-time break 1-0 up on the scoreline.
Hwang Hee-chan equalised for the visitors in the 70th minute before Miguel Almiron restored Newcastle’s lead just nine minutes later. The contest ended with Eddie Howe’s men earning a narrow 2-1 victory at home.
Let’s take a look at how each Newcastle United player fared during the clash against Wolves.
GK: Nick Pope – 7/10
The English keeper made a few crucial saves at the back and did enough to restrict the opposition to just one goal.
RB: Kieran Trippier – 6.5/10
He was far from convincing when defending inside his half but was a threat going forward. Trippier ended the game with an assist to his name.
CB: Fabian Schar – 6.5/10
Schar made a lot of important clearances at the back and was a threat at the other end of the pitch as well.
CB: Sven Botman – 6.5/10
He did his best to keep things solid at the back and was accurate with his passing.
LB: Dan Burn – 7/10
Burn made a positive impact at both ends of the field but gave away the ball cheaply at times during the game.
CM: Sean Longstaff – 6/10
He struggled to get a foothold in the game and produced an uninspiring display at the centre of the park.
CM: Bruno Guimaraes – 7/10
The Brazilian talent got stuck in with some solid tackles and had a few lively moments in the final third. He was unfortunate to hit the post.
CM: Joe Willock – 8/10
He did his fair share of defending and was a constant menace in the opposition half. Willock has got an assist to show for his efforts.
RW: Jacob Murphy – 6.5/10
Murphy had some bright moments in the game but didn’t do enough to find the back of the net.
ST: Alexander Isak – 8/10
He was a real threat in front of the opponent’s goal and made some good runs with the ball. Isak scored Newcastle’s opener in the 26th minute.
LW: Allan Saint-Maximin – 7/10
Saint-Maximin made a couple of exciting runs with the ball and engineered some meaningful openings for his teammates.
Substitutes:
RW: Miguel Almiron – 7/10
Almiron ended up netting the winning goal in the 79th minute.
ST: Callum Wilson – 6/10
The English striker offered very little after coming off the bench.
LW: Matt Ritchie – N/A
Ritchie hardly had any time to influence the game.
