In a recent report, Sky Sports revealed that Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani has launched a new offer to buy Manchester United. It has been stated that Sheikh Jassim’s representatives have tabled an improved bid to buy the Mancunian club with their latest offer believed to be highly competitive.
The deadline to table the second bid was 9 pm on 23 March 2023. However, the representatives of Sheikh Jassim requested an extension on Tuesday and were allowed more time to come up with their new and improved offer.
Who Is Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani?
Sheikh Jassim is famous for holding the title of foreign secretary and prime minister in Qatar between 2007 and 2013. He led the expansionist strategy which led to the Middle East country investing heavily abroad, especially in the United Kingdom.
Sheikh Jassim grew up alongside the emir, Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani before they both decided to join a boarding school in the UK to further their education. He is currently trying to buy Manchester United after visiting Old Trafford on several occasions to watch their matches in the past.
The Competition To Buy Manchester United Is Heating Up
Last Thursday, both Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS tabled a revised offer to own Man United. Similarly, Finnish entrepreneur Thomas Zilliacus has confirmed that his holding company, XXI Century Capital, has also made an improved bid to buy the Mancunian club.
In the first round, Elliott Management, which is a US hedge fund, launched an offer as well. The first round of bidding happened last month with as many as eight potential investors looking to take over from the Glazers as Man United’s new owners soon.
It has been mentioned that the highest bid from the first round was £4.5bn with Man United’s current owners holding out for at least £6bn.
