According to a report from Chronicle Live, Newcastle United are currently in talks with Bruno Guimaraes to renew his contract at St. James’ Park. It is understood that the Brazilian sensation has been attracting a lot of interest from Real Madrid, so the Magpies have taken a measure to prolong his stay at the Tyneside club.
Guimaraes’ Impressive Campaign With Newcastle United This Season
Guimaraes is having a fine campaign at St. James’ Park after putting in a run of impressive displays in the middle of the park. The Brazilian talent has registered four goals and three assists in 26 matches for the Magpies this season across all fronts.
The 25-year-old has given a good account of himself while anchoring the midfield based on his average of 2.2 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, 0.6 clearances, 0.8 shots, 1.1 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from midfield, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 82.7% in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Tyneside club lasts until the summer of 2026, so a new deal is only being offered in order to keep him at St. James’ Park for the foreseeable future.
Right Decision From Eddie Howe?
Bruno Guimaraes is a player with excellent ball control. He is comfortable with both feet and has a great touch, which allows him to move the ball quickly and accurately. He has a keen eye for passing lanes and can make accurate long-range passes to set up his teammates in scoring positions. Furthermore, he is an excellent reader of the game and can position himself well to cut out passes or block shots. The Brazilian talent can strike from a distance and is also comfortable finishing inside the penalty box.
He is an integral part of Eddie Howe’s midfield department because his versatility and work rate make him a valuable asset for any team. Hence, Howe has been wise to offer him a new contract in order to tie him down for a couple more years at the Tyneside club. However, it remains to be seen whether Guimareas agrees to them on personal terms and dedicates his future to the Magpies
