Arsenal welcomed Sporting CP at the Emirates Stadium earlier tonight as they looked to earn a positive result at home in the UEFA Europa League. The Gunners made a promising start to the game and got their noses ahead in the 19th minute when Granit Xhaka got his name on the scoresheet. Mikel Arteta’s men managed to get to the half-time break 1-0 up on the scoreline.

Sporting managed to equalise in the 62nd minute via Pedro Goncalves’ effort which took the match to extra time after the tie finished 3-3 on aggregate.

Both teams canceled each other out as the contest ended 3-3 after 120 minutes. Arsenal lost the tie on penalties (3-5) which knocked them out of the Europa League.
