According to a report from Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison has been struggling for opportunities in the final third. The Lilywhites acquired the former Everton forward for a £60 million transfer fee which saw him exit Goodison Park last summer, however, he hasn’t been given enough opportunities to showcase his abilities in the attacking department which explains his recent run of form.
Richarlison’s Campaign With Tottenham Hotspur So Far This Season
Richarlison has had a slow start at Tottenham as he has struggled with playtime with the North London club. He has only made 21 appearances for Spurs this season finding the back of the net on two occasions and grabbing two assists across all fronts.
The Brazilian sensation hasn’t had enough playtime with the Lilywhites to prove his worth as a reliable and consistent performer, which explains why he is only averaging 1.3 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per game in the Premier League. However, he has improved his ball distribution after completing 75.4% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
Should Richarlison Request A Transfer At The End Of This Season?
Richarlison has a solid presence in the attacking third. Despite being a forward, he likes to put his foot into a tackle contributing heavily on the defensive end. He excels at creating space and can make some decent runs in the final third creating some clear-cut goal-scoring chances. The Brazil international has got the attacking awareness and positioning needed from an adept striker inside the penalty box which shows his immense potential in becoming an attacking threat.
The 25-year-old could definitely add more goals to a match-day squad and has the technical attributes of becoming a top-class forward but with Harry Kane being the first choice, the Brazilian is only acting as a cover or looking to feature in other positions. He often has to compete with Dejan Kulsevki and Heung-Min Son, who lie on top of the pecking order. The former Everton striker is no doubt versatile in the attacking end of the field but getting the nod over Kulusevski, Son or Kane is turning out to be very difficult as they remain crucial in Conte’s starting XI.
Furthermore, he is about to enter his prime and to create a name for himself in the top level of Europe he’ll have to become a first-choice striker occupying regular game time on the pitch. This would only be possible if he chooses to exit North London at the end of this season. However, the Lilywhites would not let him go so easily as they will look to recoup most of their investment or maybe even earn a profit if they are to sanction his exit. Thus, unless Spurs receive an exciting offer they would remain reluctant to sell him, so only time can tell what his future beholds.
