In a recent report, Fichajes claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are showing the most interest in Barcelona ace Franck Kessie. It has been mentioned that Spurs are eyeing a move to land the Ivory Coast international in the summer.
Kessie’s Lackluster Spell At The Nou Camp So Far
Kessie is having an underwhelming debut season at the Catalan club as he has struggled to perform at a high level for them at the centre of the park. The 26-year-old has participated in 28 matches for Barcelona during this campaign, netting two goals and picking up three assists on all fronts.
The Ouragahio-born talent has made most of his appearances off the bench which could be why he is only averaging 0.5 tackles, 0.5 interceptions, 0.3 clearances, 0.5 shots, 0.3 key passes and 0.3 dribbles per game in La Liga football. However, he has been accurate when distributing possession from midfield after making 88.8% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at the Nou Camp is set to run out in the summer of 2026. Thus, Spurs will have to make a big offer if they are serious about recruiting Kessie at the end of this campaign.
Is Kessie A Good Option For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Antonio Conte?
Kessie is a solid tackler of the ball and can make some important interceptions for his team when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when required and has got the vision to make a few decisive passes from midfield.
The Ivory Coast sensation can also strike the ball with power from long range and usually works his socks off for his side at the centre of the park. However, he is lacking confidence at the moment due to the limited playing time he has received at Barcelona this season.
Thus, Kessie could welcome a change of scenery in search of more first-team starts in the coming seasons. Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has got the luxury to offer him regular playing minutes in the Premier League next season which might have Spurs an edge in their attempts to sign him in the summer.
We can expect Kessie to add more bite and steel to Conte’s midfield at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Hence, he would be a great option for the North London club to consider when the transfer window commences later this year as long as they can get him for a fair price.
