In a recent report, The Daily Star stated that Manchester City are set to offer Nathan Ake a new contract. It has been claimed that the Mancunian club are planning to tie the Dutch centre-back down to a new deal in the summer.

Ake’s Decent Form In English Football This Season

Ake is having a solid campaign at the Etihad Stadium after putting in a string of dominant displays at the centre of Pep Guardiola’s defence. The 28-year-old has registered two goals in 26 appearances for Man City this season across various competitions.

The Dutch talent has been a solid presence on the defensive third of the pitch based on his average of 0.9 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 1.4 clearances per game in the Premier League. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from the back, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 91.4% in the English first division (stats via whoscored).

His current deal with Man City is set to expire in the summer of 2025. Thus, it makes sense for the Mancunian club to offer the player a new and improved contract to keep hold of him for the long run.

Manchester City Set To Offer Ake A New Contract: Good Move For Both Parties?

Ake is a good tackler of the ball and can sense the danger quickly to make a few timely interceptions for his side on the defensive third of the pitch. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and is proficient at playing his way out from the back. The Netherlands international mainly functions as a central defender but can also fill in as a defensive midfielder or as a left-back if his manager tells him to do so.

At the moment, Ake is playing at a high level under Pep Guardiola‘s stewardship at Man City. Thus, it is only logical for the player to stay and extend his contract. He is currently serving as an important member of Man City’s squad and deserves a pat on the back for giving a good account of himself for Guardiola’s side as a makeshift left-back.

At 28, the Dutch sensation is enjoying the prime stage of his playing career and has what it takes to help the Mancunian club challenge for some top honours over the next few years.

All in all, it seems like a good move for both Man City and Ake to prolong their time together in search of more success in the coming seasons.
