In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that Barcelona are eyeing a move for Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans. It has been claimed that the Catalan outfit are hoping to acquire the services of the Belgian playmaker in the summer.
Tielemans’ Difficult Campaign In English Football
Tielemans is having a tough season at the King Power Stadium but has still managed to put in a series of influential displays at the centre of Leicester’s midfield. The 25-year-old has found the back of the net on four occasions and picked up one assist in 28 matches for the Foxes during this campaign across all fronts.
The Belgian sensation has caught the eye at times with his performances at the centre of the park by averaging 2.2 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, 0.7 clearances, 1.1 shots, 1.1 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from midfield after making 84.1% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at the King Power Stadium is set to expire at the end of this campaign. Thus, it makes sense for Barca to offer him a contract when he becomes a free agent in the summer.
Is Tielemans A Good Option For Arsenal?
Tielemans is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure possession back for his side in the middle of the park. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot and can also create some decent plays in the final third.
The Belgian talent can strike the ball with venom and accuracy from long range and is a good dribbler with the ball as well. He mainly operates as a box-to-box midfielder but can also function as a defensive midfielder or play in the number ten position if his manager asks him to do so.
Therefore, Tielemans would be a great option for Barcelona to consider in the summer, especially as he will be available on a free transfer.
We can expect the Belgian international to add more quality to Xavi‘s midfield department at the Nou Camp. He could even help the Catalan club challenge for multiple trophies in the coming seasons.
At 25, Tielemans has his best years ahead of him and could make himself a regular starter for Barca. Hence, Xavi would be wise to get him on board at the end of this campaign.
