In a recent report from Chronicle Live, it was mentioned that Newcastle United have identified veteran Chelsea forward Hakim Ziyech as an alternative to Everton forward Anthony Gordon. The Magpies have been keen on acquiring Gordon’s signature in this transfer window, however, negotiations with Everton are stagnant as the Toffees are unwilling to budge from their asking price of £60 million, so the Tyneside club could target Ziyech instead.

Ziyech’s Campaign At Stamford Bridge Last Season

Ziyech struggled to be productive in the final third on some occasions but did well to produce some eye-catching displays and fared well at the end of his last campaign. He scored eight goals and created six assists over 44 appearances for the West London outfit last season across all fronts.

The Morocco international was not consistent enough but managed to perform well after averaging 2.3 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He was even accurate when distributing possession, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 81.2% in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).

Should Howe Bring Him To Newcastle United?

Ziyech excels at dribbling the ball and can make some clever turns inside the penalty area, being quick on his feet. He has the vision to make decisive passes in the attacking third and can strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range.

The 29-year-old can get out of tight spaces while keeping possession of the ball and is currently in his prime. He is primarily a right-winger but remains versatile enough to play as a right-sided wide player or in the midfield positions if required.

However, the arrival of Raheem Sterling from Manchester City has reduced his minutes on the pitch and the Moroccan forward is in dire need of regular football. His arrival to Newcastle might bring in more competition on the right flank with Jose Almiron already a starter in that position. It could allow him to perform consistently to establish himself as a key player for the Magpies.

As for Chelsea, the money generated from his sale could be utilised in improving other areas of their match-day squad, so a transfer deal might be beneficial for both the clubs involved.
