In a recent report, The Daily Mirror mentioned that Liverpool are eyeing a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves. It has been claimed that the Reds are hoping to acquire the services of the Portuguese sensation.
Neves’ Impressive Form In Premier League Football This Season
The 25-year-old has enjoyed a solid campaign at the Molineux Stadium as he has produced a run of dominant displays at the centre of Wolves’ midfield. Neves has made 23 appearances for the West Midlands club this season, finding the back of the net on four occasions across all competitions.
The talented midfielder has given a good account of himself by averaging 2.6 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, 2.4 clearances, 2.1 shots and 0.9 key passes per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution after making 83.8% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Neves is under contract at Wolves until the summer of 2024. Thus, he could be a bargain option for Liverpool to consider at the end of this campaign.
What Will Neves Bring To Liverpool?
Neves is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team at the centre of the park. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when the opposition are on the front foot and has also got the vision to create some decent plays for others around him in the final third. Neves mainly operates as a holding midfielder but can also fill in as a box-to-box midfielder if required.
The Wolves midfield ace can strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range but can be a bit slow at times when asked to move up and down the field.
We can expect Neves to bring some much-needed quality to Liverpool‘s midfield department and increase competition for places within Jurgen Klopp‘s match-day squad. At the moment, he is playing some of his best football and has what it takes to become a success story at Anfield if the Reds can find a way to land him on a cut-price deal this January or next summer.
At 25, Neves’ prime years are ahead of him which makes him a good option for the Merseyside club to pursue at the end of this campaign. Klopp could also be the perfect man to unlock the best out of him if the Reds end up landing him in the not-too-distant future.
