Everton faced off against Manchester United at Old Trafford earlier tonight as they hoped to grind out a good result away from home and secure progression into the next round of the FA Cup. The Toffees made a poor start to the game as they conceded the opening goal in the 4th minute when Antony found the back of the net for Man United. However, Conor Coady equalised for Everton after pouncing on a mistake by David de Gea in the 14th minute. Both teams went into the half-time break with a 1-1 scoreline.
It was Coady who scored an unfortunate own goal for Frank Lampard’s side in the 52nd minute. The visitors tried their best to mount a comeback but conceded another goal in the seventh minute of injury time when Marcus Rashford scored from the penalty spot. The contest ended with the Toffees suffering a 3-1 loss on the road.
Let’s take a look at how each Everton player fared during the match against the Red Devils.
GK: Jordan Pickford – 6.5/10
The English keeper made a few decent saves at the back but still ended up shipping in three goals tonight.
RB: Seamus Coleman – 6.5/10
Coleman got stuck in with some solid tackles and was a threat going forward.
CB: Ben Godfrey – 5.5/10
He cleared the danger well at times but was shaky at the back.
CB: Conor Coady – 6/10
It was a match of mixed emotions for Coady as he scored the equaliser in the 14th minute but was also guilty of scoring an own goal early in the second half.
CB: James Tarkowski – 6/10
He did his fair share of defending but won’t be pleased after conceding three goals tonight.
LB: Vitaliy Mykolenko – 6/10
Mykolenko didn’t do much wrong at the back and made two decent chances in the final third.
CM: Alex Iwobi – 6/10
Iwobi did his fair share of defending and was inaccurate with his passing.
CM: Amadou Onana – 6.5/10
He anchored the midfield well and had two bright moments on the attacking end of the pitch.
CM: Idrissa Gueye – 6/10
Gueye produced a lackluster display at the centre of the park and offered very little in the Man United half.
ST: Neal Maupay – 6.5/10
Maupay was very rarely a threat and did well to last 68 minutes.
ST: Demarai Gray – 7/10
He caused a few problems for the opposition centre-backs and was unfortunate to hit the post.
CM: Abdoulaye Doucoure – 6/10
He added some bite and steel to Frank Lampard’s midfield.
ST: Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 6/10
Calvert-Lewin had a goal chalked off after coming off the bench.
RW: Anthony Gordon – 6/10
He struggled to get into the rhythm of the game.
