Manchester United will lock horns with Nottingham Forest as they travel to City Ground on Wednesday for the first leg of the EFL Cup semi-finals. The Red Devils come into the match on the back of a tough 3-2 loss against Arsenal in the Premier League, so they will be looking to bounce back in this away contest hoping to take the lead.
Erik Ten Hag will probably make use of the 4-2-3-1 formation and is expected to keep the changes to a minimum. Casemiro will return to the central areas as Scott McTominy drops to the bench while de Gea operates in between the sticks.
4-2-3-1 Manchester United Predicted XI Vs Nottingham Forest
Defence
David de Gea will continue in between the sticks for the upcoming clash. The Spanish shot-stopper would look to put up a strong performance and secure a clean sheet in this midweek contest.
Lisandro Martinez will keep his place to form the centre-half partnership with Raphael Varane at the heart of United’s backline. Aaron Wan-Bissaka will continue in the right-back position, whereas Luke Shaw will keep his place on the other flank as the left-back.
Harry Maguire will take a spot on the bench as he provides cover for the defensive positions.
Midfield
Casemiro and Christian Eriksen will anchor the defensive midfield positions as the Red Devils will heavily rely on Eriksen’s creativity to create enough opportunities in the final third while the former plays more of a defensive role to shield the back four.
Marcus Rashford, Burno Fernandes and Antony will operate just ahead of them being part of Ten Hag’s attack. All three of them will have to be on top of their game to create chances in front of the goal.
Fred and Alejandro Garnacho will have to settle for a place on the bench, but could be brought on in the second half of the contest if needed.
Attack
Wout Weghorst will continue to lead the line for Manchester United in this away encounter. The Dutch international’s adept movement in front of the goal could cause a lot of trouble for Nottingham’s defence as he would be eager to find the back of the net.
Ten Hag remains short of attacking options in the final third due to injuries, so he will have to make do with the players at his disposal.
