In a recent report from Mirror, it was stated that Liverpool are continuing to be linked to Sofyan Amrabat of Fiorentina. The Moroccan sensation has impressed with his recent showing in the 2022 FIFA World Cup which has garnered a lot of attention from the biggest clubs in Europe. The Reds are delving into the transfer market for an experienced defensive midfielder and have done well to identify Amrabat as a potential target as his contract expires in 2024.

Amrabat’s Impressive Campaign So Far This Season

Amrabat is having a brilliant campaign at La Viola this season after regaining his confidence in the central areas of the pitch as he has had more play-time compared to his previous campaign. The defensive midfielder has made 18 appearances for the Italian outfit this season becoming a key member of Vincenzo Italiano’s midfield department once again.

The Moroccan talent has a lot to offer in the central areas after averaging 2.5 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 1.7 clearances per game in the World Cup helping his nation reach the semi-finals. He has also been tidy with the ball distribution, evident from his pass completion rate of 84.5% in the biggest competition of the footballing world (stats via whoscored).

Should Klopp Bring Him To Liverpool In January?

The Moroccan international hasn’t had much stable success in Italy last season but is back in form and will likely play a bigger role for Fiorentina going ahead. He is a tough tackling midfielder who has a solid presence in the central areas. He can time his tackles well and make some crucial interceptions to win the ball back for his side. He excels at holding on to the ball and distributing it proficiently to his teammates in the final third.

Amrabat can be a decent enough competitor for Jordan Henderson and Fabinho in the midfield. The 26-year-old has the potential to play at a high level but will need time to adapt to the fast-paced nature of the Premier League.

Jurgen Klopp has done well to identify him as a potential target to bring him aboard at Anfield in January, however, a lot could depend on how much Fiorentina demand for their midfield ace to sanction his exit.
