Netherlands will be bidding against Argentina at the Lusail Stadium on Friday night as they hope to eliminate them and qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-finals. The Dutchmen recorded a splendid 3-1 victory to book their place in the quarter-finals but they’ll have to go all out if they wish to grab a win against the Argentinians.
Louis van Gaal will probably opt for a 4-3-3 formation with no changes from the last game as Cody Gakpo and Memphis Depay lead the charge forming a two-man strike team. Both of them will be responsible for finding the back of the net and being productive in front of the goal.
3-4-3 Netherlands Predicted Lineup Vs Argentina
Defence
Andries Noppert will continue between the sticks for the upcoming clash. The first-choice keeper would look to perform well and keep the opposition from taking the lead. Virgil van Dijk will form the centre-half partnership with Jurrien Timber and Nathan Ake at the heart of the Netherlands’ backline as Van Gaal deploys a three-man defence.
Matthijs de Ligt will take a spot on the bench and provide cover for the defensive positions.
Midfield
Frenkie de Jong and Marten de Roon will start in the holding midfield positions and they will be assigned with more of a defensive role to shield their side’s back-four. Both of them will be determined to set up some clear-cut goal-scoring chances for the frontmen.
Denzel Dumfries will play as a left-sided wide player while Daley Blind operates on the other flank. Both of them will keep their shape defensively and provide support from the wide areas.
Davy Klaassen is expected to slot in as the advanced attacking midfielder in the upcoming fixture. He will be responsible for creating decent chances in front of the goal and making a few decisive passes to set up his teammates on the run.
Teun Koopmeiners will have to settle for a place on the bench, but he could be brought on in the second half of the contest if needed.
Attack
As mentioned earlier, Cody Gakpo and Memphis Depay will lead the charge against the opposition, causing a menace for Argentina down the middle.
Steven Bergwijn and Wout Weghorst could be brought off the bench as impact substitutes in the second half of the match if they require a goal.
