In a recent interview with RAC 1, Barcelona director Jordi Cruyff claimed that Barcelona are keeping tabs on Ajax playmaker Mohammed Kudus. Cruyff said,

“We’ve been tracking Mohamed Kudus for more than one year. We can’t say now that Barça want Kudus… but he’s attracting interest”.

Cruyff went on to add, “He’s scoring goals and in Holland they discuss a lot about his position, so yes – I know him well”.

Kudus’ Impressive Run Of Form In Dutch Football

Kudus is having a decent campaign at Ajax as he managed to put in a handful of influential performances for them in the final third. The 22-year-old has banged in 12 goals and grabbed two assists in 23 matches for the Dutch club this season across all fronts.

The 20-time Ghana international has been a consistent performer for the Amsterdam club in the opposition half based on his average 1.8 shots and 1.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Dutch Eredivisie. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution after making 85.4% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

Kudus’ current contract at the Johan Cruyff Arena is set to expire in the summer of 2025. Hence, Barcelona would have to make a sizable offer if they want to acquire the services of the Ghana international.

Is Mohammed Kudus A Good Choice For Barcelona Boss Xavi?

Kudus is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range. He has got the vision to cut open the opponent’s defence with a decisive pass in the final third. The Ghana talent is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also play as a box-to-box midfielder or as a striker up top if required.

Someone with Kudus’ skillset will undoubtedly enhance the quality of Barcelona‘s first team and increase competition for places within Xavi‘s match-day squad. He will give Xavi more options on the attacking third of the pitch which might help Barca cope with fixture congestion better in the future.

At 22, the Ghana international has got a very bright future ahead of him if he continues to perform at such a high level. Furthermore, Kudus could help the Catalan club compete for some major trophies in the coming seasons. Therefore, it makes sense for Xavi to go all out in pursuit of the Ghana sensation as he will be a great choice for Barca to consider next year.
