In a recent report from Express Daily, it was mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur want to sign Marcus Edwards of Sporting CP. It is understood that Edwards was a product of the youth academy at Tottenham and left for Portugal in 2019. The Lilywhites want to bring him to North London in the January transfer window and could make an offer very soon.

Edwards’ Decent Numbers In European Football This Season

Edwards has made an impressive start to this campaign as he has put in a series of fruitful displays as the focal point of Sporting’s attack. The 23-year-old has found the back of the net seven times and earned five assists in 18 appearances for the Portuguese club this season in various competitions.

The London-born talent has caught the eye with his performances after averaging 1.5 shots, 1.8 key passes and 2.0 dribbles per game in Liga Portugal. He has also been tidy with his ball distribution after completing 80.6%% of his attempted passes in the Portuguese top-flight (stats via whoscored).

Should Conte Bring Him To Tottenham Hotspur?

Edwards can create a yard of space for himself to get a few shots in on-target and has got the vision to make a few meaningful chances for his teammates in the opponent’s half. He is quite clever with his movements in and around the opposition penalty box and can get past the defenders with ease.

An attacking forward of Okafor’s quality will no doubt be a clever acquisition for the Lilywhites as he is good enough to rival Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski for a regular starting spot at North London in the coming seasons.

We can expect the English attacker to add more firepower to Conte’s attacking department and could even help the North London club challenge for some top honours over the next decade. At 23, the future is quite promising for him as long as he continues to develop his all-round game with each season. Thus, it is only logical for Antonio Conte to try everything in his power to snap Edwards up in the coming transfer window.
