Manchester City entertained Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium earlier tonight as they looked to secure a good result in the third round of the EFL Cup. Man City made a solid start to the game but were held to a scoreless draw at the half-time break.
Riyad Mahrez finally broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute before Julian Alvarez made the points secure just five minutes later when he got his name on the scoresheet as well. Man City sat on their lead well and cruised to an impressive 2-0 win at home.

GK: Stefan Ortega – 8/10
Ortega made a handful of solid saves during the game and secured a well-deserved clean sheet at the Etihad.
RB: Rico Lewis – 6.5/10
He was mostly solid at the back and made one good run with the ball.
CB: Ruben Dias – 7/10
Dias cleared the danger when needed and made a couple of solid tackles during the contest.
CB: Aymeric Laporte – 7/10
The Spanish defender earned the ball back twice and was accurate with his passing.
LB: Sergio Gomez – 7/10
Gomez did his fair share of defending but offered very little in the Chelsea half.
CM: Rodri – 6.5/10
He anchored the midfield well and made one good run with the ball. Rodri got replaced early in the second half.
CM: Ilkay Gundogan – 6.5/10
The German talent created some inviting chances for his teammates in the final third but could last only 49 minutes before being substituted.
RW: Riyad Mahrez – 8/10
The Algerian sensation was a constant menace down the right flank and scored the all-important opening goal in the 53rd minute.
CAM: Cole Palmer – 7/10
The English talent came back to defend when required and managed to threaten the Chelsea goal at times.
LW: Jack Grealish – 7/10
He caused a lot of headaches for the opposition defenders but failed to register a goal.
ST: Julian Alvarez – 7.5/10
Alvarez led the line well and managed to get his name on the scoresheet in the 58th minute. He also made one good opportunity in the final third.

CM: Kalvin Phillips – 6.5/10
Phillips added some energy to Man City’s midfield.
CM: Bernardo Silva – 6/10
The Portugal international struggled to get into the flow of the game and offered very little in the final third.

Ake hardly had any time to influence the game after coming off the bench.
