According to a report from Manchester Evening News, former Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany believes that Kylian Mbappe should join the Sky Blues after a brilliant display against Australia in the FIFA World Cup being held in Qatar.
Kompany had only the right thing to say when asked about Mbappe’s future at PSG considering his unhappiness at the club.
Mbappe’s Campaign With Paris Saint Germain This Season
Mbappe is having another excellent campaign in Paris as he has already put in a handful of influential displays as the focal point of Christophe Galtier’s attack. The 23-year-old has banged in nineteen goals and created five assists over 20 appearances for the French club this season across all competitions.
The France international has been exceptional at the attacking front for PSG based on his average of 4.6 shots, 1.9 key passes and 1.9 dribbles per game in Ligue 1 football. He has even been accurate when linking up play in the final third, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 84% in the French top flight (stats via whoscored).
Could Guardiola Bring Him To Manchester City?
Mbappe is a goal-scoring beast as he can complete a few dangerous dribbles on the attacking end of the field. He has got a knack for creating space for himself as he drifts wide from down the middle to cut inside the opposition penalty box and is a deadly finisher up top. Mbappe is primarily a centre-forward but remains versatile enough to fill in as a wide player on either flank if required. Furthermore, his athleticism and pace are off the charts as he can get past any defender with ease.
The French attacker can also link up with his teammates to create better chances as seen with Lionel Messi and Neymar in recent showings. Mbappe is a dominant force in front of the goal and he is already one of the best strikers in the world.
However, Pep Guardiola has not shown any interest in signing the superstar even during last summer. On the other hand, the Spanish tactician has already acquired Erling Haaland who is currently having a splendid debut season at the Eithad stadium being equally threatening in front of the goal as Mbappe.
Right now, signing Mbappe seems utterly unnecessary for the Sky Blues. They have reliable players in the front and enough depth in the attacking department, so paying such a huge sum as transfer fee would not be a good decision even though pairing Mbappe and Haaland up front would be a mouth-watering sight in the football world.
