In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that Barcelona have identified Red Bull Leipzig full-back, Dani Olmo, as a target for the January transfer window. It is understood that the Spanish attacker is one of the options Barca are considering as they look to strengthen their squad this winter.

Olmo’s Decent Run Of Form In German Football This Season

Olmo is having a fruitful campaign at Leipzig as he has been responsible for putting in a handful of productive displays for them in the final third. The 24-year-old has banged in two goals and earned three assists in ten matches for the German outfit this season across multiple competitions.

The Terrassa-born sensation has proven his worth as a reliable performer by averaging 1.3 shots, 2.0 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He has even been tidy when interchanging possession with his teammates after making 76.4% of his attempted passes in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).

Olmo is under contract at the Red Bull Arena until the summer of 2024. Therefore, it makes sense for Barca to test the waters by launching a move for him this January.

What Will Olmo Bring To Barcelona?

Olmo is a technically gifted footballer who is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and has got the vision to play a few decisive passes on the attacking end of the field. He can even chip in by scoring his fair share of goals up top. The Spanish talent usually operates in the number ten position as an attacking midfielder but can also fill in as a winger on either flank if his manager asks him to do so.

Someone of Olmo’s skillset and quality will no doubt bring more goals and creativity to Xavi’s attack at the Nou Camp. He ticks all the right boxes in terms of what is required to taste success at the Catalan club.

Therefore, Barcelona should consider going all out to secure Olmo’s services during the January transfer window as long as they can get him for a fair price. At 24, his best years are ahead of him which makes him a decent, long-term option for Barca to pursue this winter.

Olmo knows the Catalan club well from his previous spell with them as a youth player. Hence, he won’t take much time settling into life at the Nou Camp and could prove himself to be a reliable performer in Xavi’s starting XI in the coming seasons.
