Aston Villa faced off against Brighton and Hove Albion at the American Express Community Stadium earlier today as they hoped to earn a good result away from home. The Villans made a horror start to the game as they conceded the opening goal in the first minute when Alexis Mac Allister found the back of the net for the home side. However, the West Midlands club managed to net the equaliser in the 20th minute via Danny Ings’ penalty. Both teams went into the half-time break with a 1-1 scoreline.

It was Ings who scored again for the Villans in the 54th minute Unai Emery’s men sat on their lead well and earned a narrow 2-1 victory on the road.

Let’s take a look at how each Aston Villa player fared during the match against the Seagulls.

GK: Emiliano Martinez – 6.5/10

The Argentine keeper made just one save during the game but would be disappointed after conceding such an early goal.

RB: Matty Cash – 6.5/10

Cash performed his defensive duties well and made one key chance in the final third.

CB: Ezri Konsa – 6.5/10

He cleared his lines when needed and didn’t take any chances on the defensive third of the pitch.

CB: Tyrone Mings – 6.5/10

Mings made a lot of crucial clearances at the back but was a bit untidy with his passing.

LB: Lucas Digne – 6.5/10

The French talent earned the ball back twice but offered very little in the final third.

RM: John McGinn – 7/10

McGinn got stuck in with some solid tackles and made one good run with the ball.

CM: Boubacar Kamara – 7/10

The Frenchman anchored the midfield with a lot of conviction and had a couple of bright moments in the Brighton half.

CM: Douglas Luiz – 6.5/10

The Brazilian made a nervy start to the game but recovered well and produced a good display at the centre of the park. He has got an assist to show for his efforts.

LM: Jacob Ramsey – 6/10

He gave away the ball cheaply at times and put in an underwhelming performance on the left flank.

ST: Emiliano Buendia – 7/10

Buendia made two important interceptions and caused some problems for the Brighton defenders.

ST: Danny Ings – 8.5/10

Ings did his fair share of defending and was a constant menace in the final third. He scored both of Aston Villa’s goals today.

LM: Ashley Young – 6/10

He was solid at the back.

ST: Leon Bailey – 6/10

Bailey added some pace to Emery’s attack.
