In a recent report, Calciomercatoweb mentioned that Arsenal are hoping to land Inter Milan ace Denzel Dumfries in January. It is believed that the Gunners are hoping to strengthen their squad by recruiting the Dutch talent during the winter transfer period.
Dumfries’ Impressive Run Of Form In Italian Football
Dumfries is having a decent campaign at San Siro as he has managed to put in some impressive displays on the right side of Inter’s midfield. The Rotterdam-born wide player has scored two times and picked up three assists in 20 matches for the Italian side this season in all competitions.
The 26-year-old has given a good account of himself by averaging 1.0 clearances, 1.3 shots and 1.1 key passes per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from the right flank, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 78.3% in the top tier of Italian football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at San Siro is set to run out in the summer of 2025. Hence, Arsenal will have to make a big move if they are serious about bringing Dumfries to the Emirates Stadium this January.
Is Denzel Dumfries The Right Fit For Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta?
Dumfries usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the offensive and can also strike the ball with power from long range. He can also set up a few inviting chances for his teammates from the right flank but needs to find a way to be more consistent with his defending. At the moment, the Dutch talent is having a solid season at Inter Milan.
Hence, Arsenal should think about moving in for Dumfries when the transfer window commences at the start of next month. We can expect the Dutch sensation to inject more quality into Mikel Arteta‘s first XI. At 26, his best years are ahead of him which makes him a good signing for the Gunners to pursue in 2023.
Arteta has often preferred to play Ben White as a makeshift right-back this season. Recruiting Dumfries could give the Gunners’ boss more natural width out on the flanks. Hence, he will be a good fit for Arsenal‘s style of play in North London.
Plus, Dumfries has previously been part of title races in Italy and could help the London giants maintain their push for the Premier League title and maybe, even challenge for a major trophy in the second half of this campaign.
