The Netherlands will clash heads with Qatar at Al Bayt Stadium on Tuesday evening, hoping to pick up a positive result on matchday 3 of the World Cup campaign. The visitors will be coming into the match on the back of a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Ecuador, whereas the host nation recorded a 3-1 loss to Senegal.
Louis van Gaal will probably opt for the 3-4-1-2 formation with a couple of tweaks from the last game as Memphis Depay looks likely to make his way back into the starting eleven.
4-3-3 Netherlands Predicted Lineup Vs Qatar
Defence
Andries Noppert is expected to start between the sticks for the upcoming clash. The Heerenveen shot-stopper would look to put up a strong performance and secure a clean sheet on Tuesday.
Virgil van Dijk will form the centre-half partnership with Jurrien Timber, and Nathan Ake at the heart of the Netherlands’ backline.
Daley Blind should start at the left wing-back position, whereas Denzel Dumfries will fill in on the other flank as the right wing-back. The full-backs will be expected to stay compact and keep their shape defensively.
Midfield
Frenkie de Jong might start in the holding midfield position and could be assigned with more of a defensive role to shield his side’s back-four.
Steven Berghuis will slot into the central midfield role, determined to set up some clear-cut goal-scoring chances for the frontmen.
Teun Koopmeiners will have to settle for a place on the bench, but he could be brought on in the second half of the contest if needed.
Attack
Cody Gakpo and Memphis Depay will take up the striker’s positions, causing menace for Qatar down the right and left channels, respectively.
Steven Bergwijn is expected to slot in as the attacking midfielder in the upcoming fixture. The Ajax midfielder’s adept movement in front of the goal could cause a lot of trouble for the Qatar defence which has conceded five goals in their last two matches.
Wout Weghorst could be brought off the bench as an impact substitute in the second forty-five minutes of the match.
