In a recent edition of The Football Terrace, renowned journalist Ben Jacobs offered an update on the future of Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane. Jacobs said, “We know that there was interest from Manchester City a few seasons back. Chelsea are the more likely threat coming from the Premier League at the moment.

“They will look at Harry Kane for sure.

“Todd Boehly is very keen on showing Chelsea can bring in proven Premier League players, particularly attack-minded players.

“They want a marquee name from within the Premier League, they want to bring in someone to hit the ground running, look at Gabriel Jesus, how beneficial he has been to Arsenal. Jesus has just been able to transition instantly, Kane would be able to transition instantly.”

Kane’s Impressive Form In North London

Kane is having another outstanding campaign at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as he has put in a run of impressive displays as the focal point of Antonio Conte’s midfield. The 29-year-old has banged in nine goals and grabbed two assists in 13 matches for Spurs this season across all competitions.

The English talent has given a good account of himself by averaging 3.4 shots, 1.9 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. However, Kane needs to improve his link-up play in the final third, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 74.8% in league football (stats via whoscored).

Can Tottenham Hotspur Boss Antonio Conte Afford To Lose Kane?

Kane is proficient at creating space for himself to get a few strikes in on-target and has got the vision to create a few inviting chances for his teammates in and around the opposition penalty box. The English talent can even make a few dangerous runs in behind the opponent’s backline when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. He remains an important component of Antonio Conte‘s squad.

Hence, the Tottenham Hotspur head coach simply cannot afford to lose Kane next year. Spurs would be better off keeping hold of Kane for at least a few more years as he has shown no signs of slowing down of late.

At 29, Kane is currently playing in his prime and is well-equipped to help the North London club secure a major trophy or two in the coming seasons. Therefore, Conte would be wise to keep hold of Kane for at least the duration of his current contract which is set to expire in the summer of 2024.
