Liverpool welcomed Manchester City at Anfield earlier this evening as they looked to earn a good result on their travels. The Merseyside club were solid in the first half and managed to get into the half-time break with a goalless scoreline.

Mohamed Salah scored a wonderful breakaway goal in the 76th minute as the contest ended with Jurgen Klopp’s men securing a gritty 1-0 win at home.

Let’s take a look at how each Liverpool player performed during the match against Manchester City.

GK: Alisson Becker – 8/10

The Brazilian keeper made a handful of important saves at the back and secured a well-deserved clean sheet in front of the Kop. He also picked a great assist for setting up Salah’s goal.

RB: James Milner – 8/10

The English veteran was a rock at the back and kept Phil Foden in his back pocket for most of the game.

CB: Joe Gomez – 7.5/10

Gomez made a string of crucial clearances inside his half and performed well enough to keep Erling Haaland quiet during the 90 minutes.

CB: Virgil Van Dijk – 8/10

The Dutch centre-back organized his backline really well and dealt with the danger when needed.

LB: Andrew Robertson – 7.5/10

The Scottish left-back pressed the opposition with a lot of intensity and had Liverpool’s best chance in the first half which he ended up missing.

CM: Fabinho – 7/10

The Brazil international did a lot of defensive dirty work and played some decent passes in the Man City half.

CM: Thiago Alcantara – 7/10

He was always looking to get on the ball and distribute possession toward his teammates in the opponent’s half. The Spanish midfield ace came back to defend when needed.

RW: Harvey Elliott – 8/10

Elliott worked his socks off defensively and was a real menace in the final third.

CAM: Roberto Firmino – 7.5/10

The Brazilian led the Liverpool press well and linked up play well with others around him.

LW: Diogo Jota – 7/10

He worked his socks off in the final third but lacked the cutting edge of the opponent’s goal.

ST: Mohamed Salah – 9/10

The Egypt international was unstoppable at times inside the Man City half because of his excellent strength and dribbling. He scored the only goal of the game with a lovely run and finish.

Substitutes:

ST: Darwin Nunez – 6.5/10

He was too selfish at times but held the ball up well.

LW: Fabio Carvalho – 6/10

Carvalho kept the ball really well in tight spaces.

CM: Jordan Henderson – 6/10

The Liverpool captain helped his team see out the win.

RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – N/A

He didn’t get enough time to influence the game.

LB: Kostas Tsimikas – N/A
