In a recent interview with Goodison News, Sky Sports pundit Kevin Campbell urged Everton defender Yerry Mina to leave this January. Campbell said,

“I think that’s going to happen.

“When Yerry Mina’s been fit he’s been really useful to Everton, but you know my saying – the best ability is availability.

“And if you’re not available them really your value to the club is diminished significantly because you’re not fit to play enough.

“So again, contract running down, I think this is something that could happen.

“Yerry Mina’s a Colombian international, very good player, but unfortunately with the demands of the Premier League he just can’t keep himself fit.

“So maybe he’ll get better luck at Inter Milan, or somewhere else.”

Mina’s Lackluster Season In English Football So Far

Mina is having a frustrating campaign at Goodison Park as he has struggled to earn a regular run of games for the Toffees. The 28-year-old was sidelined with an ankle injury which is why he has only made one appearance for Everton this season in the Premier League.

His current contract at the Merseyside club is set to expire in the summer of 2023. Hence, it makes sense for the Toffees to cash in on Mina for a cut-price fee rather than lose him on a free transfer next summer.

Should Everton Boss Frank Lampard Cut Mina Loose This Winter?

On his day, Mina can be a dominant presence on the defensive end of the field as he can use his strong 1.95m frame to win his fair share of 50-50 duels in the air. He doesn’t mind making himself big and putting his foot through the ball when required.

The Colombia international is a solid tackler of the ball as well and can sense the danger quickly to secure the ball back for his side inside his half.

However, Mina has been far too injury-prone in recent seasons and is currently on an expiring contract at the Merseyside club. Thus, it makes sense for Everton boss Frank Lampard to cut him loose during the January transfer window rather than risk losing him on a free transfer at the end of this campaign.

Mina is not a big part of Lampard’s plans at Goodison Park and could benefit from a change of scenery if he wants to get his career back on track. Therefore, it is only fair to him if Everton allow him to depart during the January transfer window.
