Newcastle United welcomed Everton at St. James’ Park earlier tonight as they hoped to pick up a good result in front of their home fans in the Premier League. The Magpies made a decent start to the game and scored the opening goal in the 30th minute when Miguel Almiron scored with a wonderful left-footed finish. Eddie Howe’s men managed to get into the half-time break 1-0 up on the scoreline.
Both sides fought tooth and nail in the second 45 minutes but canceled each other out as the contest finished 1-0 in favour of the Tyneside giants.
Let’s take a look at how each Newcastle United player performed during the contest against the Toffees.
GK: Nick Pope – 7/10
Pope didn’t have a save to make in the game and earned an easy clean sheet at home.
RB: Kieran Trippier – 8/10
He gave a good account of himself on the defensive end of the field and engineered a few clear-cut chances for his teammates to score.
CB: Fabian Schar – 7.5/10
Schar kept things solid at the back and was a threat at the other end of the field as well.
CB: Sven Botman – 7/10
He cleared his lines when needed and created a couple of decent chances in the final third.
LB: Dan Burn – 7/10
The English talent secured the ball back twice and was strong in the air. However, he offered very little in the final third.
CM: Sean Longstaff – 6.5/10
Longstaff got stuck in with some solid tackles and orchestrated two inviting chances for his teammates to score.
CM: Bruno Guimaraes – 7.5/10
He anchored the midfield with conviction and picked up an assist for setting up Almiron’s match-winner.
CM: Joelinton – 6.5/10
Joelinton worked hard defensively but lacked the cutting edge in the final third. He got replaced at half-time.
RW: Miguel Almiron – 7.5/10
Almiron caused a few headaches for the opposition and scored a goal worthy of winning any match.
ST: Callum Wilson – 6.5/10
The English striker had a few lively moments in the game but didn’t do enough to find the back of the net.
LW: Jacob Murphy – 6/10
He made one key chance in the final third but hardly got a sniff at goal.
Substitutes:
CM: Joe Willock – 6.5/10
Willock added more energy to Newcastle’s midfield.
CM: Elliot Anderson – 6/10
He made one good chance in the opponent’s half.
LW: Ryan Fraser – 6/10
Fraser offered very little after coming off the bench.
ST: Chris Wood – N/A
Wood hardly had any time to influence the game.
