In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, Pete O’Rourke urged Everton to land Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk this summer. O’Rourke said,
“There’s massive competition for him (Mudryk).
“So, if Everton were able to blow their rivals out of the water with a big-money bid, I think that’ll be a massive signing for them and a real signal of intent that the club are going to back Frank Lampard in the transfer market.”
Mudryk’s Impressive Form In The Champions League This Season
Mudryk has made a decent start to this campaign as he has produced a run of impressive displays for Shakhtar on the attacking third of the field. The 21-year-old has registered two goals and six assists in seven matches for the Ukrainian outfit this season across all fronts.
The gifted wide player has managed to catch the eye with his performances in Europe after he averaged 1.7 shots, 1.0 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in the UEFA Champions League so far during this campaign. He has even taken care of the ball when distributing possession in the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 85% in European football (stats via whoscored).
What Will Mudryk Bring To Everton?
Mudryk is proficient at finding space for himself to get a few shots in on-target and has got the vision to engineer some clear-cut chances in the final third. He hardly gives away possession cheaply and can make a few dangerous runs with the ball out on the flanks. The Ukraine talent is primarily a left-winger but can also operate as a right-sided wide player or as a centre-forward if required.
At the moment, Mudryk is playing at a high level and could make an instant impact at the Merseyside club if Frank Lampard can find a way to win the race for his services.
We can expect Mudryk to bring some much-needed goals and creativity to Everton‘s attack and increase competition for places within their squad. At 21, the future is quite promising for the Ukraine international as long as he continues to improve his all-around game with each season.
Therefore, the Toffees should prioritize on getting a deal done for Mudryk as he will be a perfect, long-term signing for them to pursue next summer. He could even help the Merseysiders challenge across all competitions in the coming years if Lampard can devise a way to lure him to Goodison in January or at the end of this campaign.
