In a recent report, Calciomercato revealed that Arsenal are among clubs hoping to land FC Midtjylland winger Gustav Isaksen. It is understood that the Gunners could face stiff competition from Newcastle United and West Ham United in the race to land the Danish wide player.
Isaksen’s Impressive Form For Midtjylland This Season
Isaksen is having a decent campaign in Danish football as he has already put in a few match-winning displays on the right side of Midtjylland’s attack. The 21-year-old has found the back of the net on seven occasions and picked up one assist in 23 matches for the Danish club this season across all fronts.
The gifted wing wizard has caught the eye with his performances in Europe based on his average of 2.2 shots, 0.6 key passes and 1.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in the UEFA Europa League. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution after making 75% of his attempted passes in European football (stats via whoscored).
The Hjerk-born talent’s current contract at the MCH Arena is set to run out in the summer of 2024, so Arsenal might have a good chance of landing him on a cut-price deal at the end of this campaign.
Is Isaksen A Good Choice For Arsenal Head Coach Mikel Arteta?
Isaksen is proficient at getting a few strikes in on target and can make some good openings for others around him. He is a decent dribbler with the ball as well and has a handful of goals to his game this season. Isaksen is primarily a right-sided wide player but can also fill in as a left-winger if his manager tells him to do so.
However, the Danish winger is still unproven at the highest level and might need time to settle into Mikel Arteta‘s playing style at the Emirates Stadium if the Arsenal boss can get him on board next summer.
We can expect Isaksen to add more goals and pace to Arteta’s frontline and increase competition for places within the North London club‘s match-day squad.
At 21, the future is quite bright for Isaksen as long as he continues to develop his game with each season. However, he could struggle to cope with the physicality and high intensity of Premier League football. Still, there is no denying that the pros outweigh the cons of recruiting Isaksen as he will be a great choice for the Gunners to consider next year.
