Aston Villa entertained Southampton at Villa Park earlier tonight as they looked to earn a good result in the Premier League. The Villans made a decent start to the game and managed to take the lead in the 41st minute when Jacob Ramsey scored from close range. The West Midlands club were leading 1-0 at the half-time break.

Steven Gerrard’s men protected their advantage well in the second 45 minutes and ensured a narrow 1-0 win in front of their home fans.

Let’s take a look at how each Aston Villa player fared during the match against the Saints.

GK: Emiliano Martinez – 7/10

The Argentine keeper had to make just one save in the game and earned an easy clean sheet at home.

RB: Ashley Young – 7/10

He was defensively solid inside his half and made one key chance in the final third.

CB: Ezri Konsa – 7/10

Konsa made a few important clearances at the back and was strong in the air.

CB: Tyrone Mings – 7/10

The English centre-back didn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when needed and was good on the ball as well.

He did his fair share of defending and was there at the right place to open the goal-scoring for Aston Villa just before the half-time break.
